192 Miles Down - 0 Left to Go (for a couple of days at least)

Littlebeck to Robin Hood’s Bay, 12 Miles

The first leg of our journey is complete! Such a mix of emotions: accomplishment, pride, relief, a bit sad, very happy… we’re feeling it all right now.

Here are a few pics from our B&B last night. It was a working farm and our hosts made us feel very welcome, as did the cows.

Our bedroom overlooked this cow pen.

The 300 year old farmhouse in Littlebeck

Todays trail started out through a wooded nature preserve. It was the sort of scene where you expect a hobbit or gnome to pop out on the trail ahead of you. It was simply gorgeous.

A walk through Littlebeck Nature Preserve was a wonderful way to start our day

A hermitage carved in stone from 1790

We stopped at a tea house along the trail for another cream tea.

The nature preserve eventually opened up into more moors (haha), and we soon caught a glimpse of the North Sea, where our trail would end.

A bit of a boggy walk through the last of the Moors

We still had several miles to go, but at least we could see the ocean .

We walked along these dramatic cliffs for a few miles into Robin Hood’s Bay

The tradition of Coast to Coast walkers is to dip your toes into the Irish Sea at the beginning and the North Sea at the end. And also to carry a pebble from the coast at St Bee’s to toss into the water at Robin Hood’s Bay. In the spirit of tradition, we did both… however the toe dip was a bit more like a mid-calf dip thanks to a stealthy wave.

Tossing pebbles from the trailhead into the sea at trails end

Whoa! That wave came out of nowhere!

The end of this adventure for Mr Justice and the Americans.

After a celebratory pint we said goodbye to Rob, our walking friend over the last couple of weeks. Its going to be weird not running into him on the trail every day.

Looking back on Robin Hood’s Bay

We’re taking it easy for a couple of days as we make our way to Glasgow to begin Leg 2. Tonight, we’re at a very comfortable guest house in Robin Hood’s Bay.

These dogs are looking forward to a break!

Tomorrow, we’re heading up the coast a few miles (by taxi, not foot!), to stay at Whitby. One of Whitby’s claims to fame is a gothic abbey that serves as the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. A reliable source from the trail has told us that their fish and chips are second to none, so you know what we’ll be eating!

I‘ll post some Day 14 pics to the gallery.

Good Night!

Bravo! Photos are beguiling! A round of applause for this accomplishment and a bow of appreciation from us in our recliners for sharing the walk. Can’t wait for next episode. Nora
