2024 MESA Bike Tour Day 4

Updated: Jun 20, 2024

47 miles today/189 miles total

We had breakfast at a retirement community in Ashland and then charted a westward course. We had some gradual climbing this AM, until we reached Shelby for lunch. It was a hot day with a hot headwind!

Bob in the distance this morning. He had his Wheaties today!

The Shelby Club presented a check to MESA after a picnic lunch at their pavilion.

We relaxed in the shady lawn of the Bucyrus YMCA while we waited for the rest of the crew to arrive at our stop for the night - Bucyrus.

The Bucyrus Club hosted us at their annual summer picnic. We had our typical MESA talk, but it was also the induction of their officers and then we all had a chance to share a little about ourselves and why we ride for MESA. I was honored to give the opening speech for the Induction Ceremony.

Not too many pics to share today. When it’s hot like this, no one thinks to stop and capture the moment - we just want to get through it!

Five of us riders are staying the night with a lovely Rotarian. Four of us are camping out in her living room tonight. (Several of us brought sleeping pads and Bob and I are happy to sleep on the floor ).

Our host is a recent widow who was just diagnosed with cancer. She enjoyed the distraction of company tonight and we enjoyed hearing her stories. Her first memory of Rotary was when she was 5 yrs old and the Rotary Club in her hometown put in a community pool and lights at the high school tennis court. Years later, this compelled her to join Rotary. Hearing stories like hers warms my heart!

Tomorrow is our last day on the tour. We will head back to Tiffin, where we started 5 days ago. Tomorrow’s 45 miles is almost entirely downhill!

Good night!
