30 Miles Down - 170 Miles to Go

Another gorgeous, but tough day on the trail.

After a Full Cumbrian Breakfast, we were energized for another 15 mile day.

Fried egg, sausage, bacon, black pudding, mushrooms, roasted tomato and mushrooms

Our first half of the hike was pleasant, along a gorgeous lake. It was a nice warmup for the strenuous second half.

I compare the second half of todays hike to an ascent/decent of a 1000 ft stone staircase. It would‘t have been too bad, but our full backpacks certainly made it a challenge.

So many sheep!

As with most uphill climbs, we were rewarded with incredible views from the top.

We’re both so surprised at how mountainous the Lake District is.

The sliver of a lake shown in the center background was the lake we walked around this morning.

So… we were supposed to camp tonight. Buuuut there’s rain the forecast tonight and our sore muscles could use a real mattress. Near the end of today’s hike (and only a couple of miles from our planned campsite) we found a very posh inn that was happy to take us in for the night!

Fish Stew with a Cheesy Potatoes and Pork Wrapped in Bacon with a Mushroom Sauce

Nothing traditionally English about tonight’s meal, but it was delicious.

Tomorrow’s hike includes another strenuous climb, but a few miles shorter. We’ll be staying at a youth hostel (roughing it compared to our luxurious digs tonight).

Good night friends!
