Grasmere to Patterdale
The clouds have cleared out and it’s an absolutely gorgeous day in the Lake District.
Last night’s stay at the Grasmere Youth Hostel was very pleasant. Due to COVID, the hostels are only booking one party per dorm room. Bob and I had a room for 10 all to ourselves!

Although we had a steep ascent today, it wasn’t nearly as torturous as yesterday‘s climb through the chilling rain and mucky trail. In fact it was our warmest day so far… my temp sensor read 70 F.
The views from the top of the pass were beautiful.

We made it to the Village of Patterdale by early afternoon. We had selected a campground for the night and headed there straight away. Unfortunately, our bag delivery was delayed by several hours and we spent most of the afternoon wondering if our backpacks were actually going to arrive… I guess that’s the price we pay for paying someone to haul our backpacks. It all worked out: backpacks eventually arrived, tent set up, bellies filled with pints of ale and steak & kidney pies. We’re now settling in for the night at a very lively campground.
I posted a few pics in the gallery for Day 4.
We have a long trek tomorrow (14 miles). It will be our last day in the Lake District, and then we’re into the North Yorkshire Dales.
Good night friends and family!
The scenery is beautiful! Thank you for taking us along, perched on your shoulders as you do the hard work and we just applaud. Rest well!
