We've covered 335 miles over 9 days. It's been such a great time. Our bums are very ready for a break.

We had a really comfortable night at Lockhouse 25. The temp in the house never got above 55 F, so we stayed bundled up while inside.

Here's one of the two upstairs bedrooms. Our lockhouse was furnished with 1860's civil war era goods and furniture. Other lock houses along the route covered different periods ranging from 1830s to 1930s. Ours was one of the more rustic accommodations.

We only had 30 miles to cover today to reach Mile Marker 0 of the C&O Towpath. There really weren't any quaint little towns along the canal today, but we did get to explore Great Falls National Park.

At its widest, the Potomac is over 1000 ft across. Here at Great Falls, it squeezes down to 100 ft.

The trail today was really gorgeous. The weather was the best we've seen the whole trip.

This particular lock house is furnished to evoke 1930's life on the canal. Indoor plumbing, full kitchen, central air.

The last 5 miles were very suburban, and then the towpath leads straight into Georgetown. DC, one of our favorite places to visit.

Mile Marker 0 on the C&O is a little difficult to find, but we managed to track it down.

A celebratory beer on the Potomac Waterfront.

We're resting our saddles for a few days at the Georgetown House Inn. This historic building was built by the C&O canal company in the 1830's. While the canal was in operation, this place served as a store room, a tavern, and lodging for drivers & mules. Now it boutique hotel for a different sort of tired old mule.
We're planning to eat, drink, meet up with friends and hit some of our favorite museums while we're here (and take a break from blogging). We'll catch the Amtrak back home in a few days.

It's been a fun filled journey with the best travel partner a person could ever hope for. We're already planning our next adventure and can't wait to share it with you all!
