Erie Canal Day 3

Updated: Jun 11, 2024

45 miles today/132 miles total

Our camp site at the Brockport Visitors Center was great, but it was far from a quiet night. It’s right in the center of the town, and there’s a lamp post right above our campsite. But, it was a gorgeous sunny morning and we had a lovely canal-side breakfast, and visited with our campsite neighbors, who live on a boat with their cat!

The Brockport Welcome Center is hospitable to campers AND boaters . This couple sold their house, bought a gorgeous sailboat and sailed it to the Bahamas.. Now they’re on they’re way back to Canada
Spam burrito!

We found an REI on the trail! Good thing, as we needed to stock up on a few more freeze dried meals for our trip!
Garden art in someone’s backyard along the canal. I know what our next welding project is going to look like!

The trail along Rochester was very urban. Still very nice, but lots of trails and the signs had been heavily graffitied, to the point that we got lost for a bit.
Tame wildlife
After 35 miles of riding, we needed a break before our final push to the campsite. A distillery in Fairport was just the place!
Hot dogs, pierogis, and cocktails! Mid-afternoon snack.

Forbes rated their bourbon in the top ten outside of Kentucky. It was quite good!

Our campground is near Macedon, an easy 6 mile peddle downstream from the cocktails and hotdogs in Fairport

Nice, quiet and dark! Plus spectacular hot showers! Tonight’s camp spot is in a secluded RV park that’s dark and quiet. Fantastic hot showers!

We give this one a 4+ out of 5.

Tomorrow, we leave the canal path for a couple of days. We’ll spend tomorrow in Seneca Falls and the next day at a campground at the Finger Lakes.

Gallery images didn’t properly load tonight, but I’ll try again tomorrow when service is better. Upstate NY is remote! When the pics do load, you can find them HERE

Good night!
