Erie Canal Day 4

Updated: Jun 11, 2024

47 miles today/179 miles total

We’re not sure how we’ve lucked out with the weather, but we’ve dodged the nasty rain that’s been hitting New York for the last few days.

We enjoyed a nice sunny morning and took our time packing up.

We noticed a change in the topography today. Lots of hills on the trail. In places it felt like the Pacific NW - dense forest, single track trail and pleasant temps.

We diverged from the canal trail in Clyde and headed south through gorgeous hilly farm country.

Sea Meat Wrap!
Somehow we miscalculated today’s distance. We were expecting a 30 mile day to Seneca Falls but it was actually a 47 mile stretch. It wasn’t much farther than we’ve been biking each day, but it was a bit fatiguing since we were mentally prepared for a shorter day.

By the time we reached town, we were ready for a drink!

Tonight, we’re taking a break from pitching a tent and are staying at a B&B in Seneca Falls.

The house is an 1860’s colonial revival with a much bigger vestibule than our trusty tent!

We double and triple checked our route tomorrow and it’s only a 3.3 mile ride to tomorrow’s campground (not 43.3)! So we’re going to take in Seneca Falls tomorrow, beginning with the Women’s Hall of Fame at the Seneca Knitting Mill.

In 1848, the first women’s convention was held in Seneca Falls. The Seneca Falls Convention. produced a list of demands called the Declaration of Sentiments.

I have many more pics to share, but unfortunately the gallery isn’t accepting any new pics tonight. UPDATE: gallery is uploading! Click here to view: HERE

So with that in mind, we’ll post again tomorrow!
