Let's Ride!

Bob and I are hopping on a Pittsburgh-bound train tonight with our bikes. Tomorrow, we're embarking on a multi-day, 330 mile ride from Pittsburgh to Washington DC on the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Towpath.

The Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) Trail was a railroad corridor that’s been converted into bike path. The Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) Canal Towpath follows the Potomac River from Cumberland, MD to Washington DC.

Preparing for the trip like this is always part of the fun. We've bought various bike bags to fit efficiently behind our seats, within our frames and on our handlebars. We took our new bags on a beta test a few weeks ago to ensure everything worked well.

Our accumulation of bags hold 40 liters of gear per rider and weighs around 28 lbs when fully loaded. That sounds like plenty of space, but we're feeling a bit constrained.

There'll be a lot of selfies like this along the way...

Setting up camp during our trial test with the new bags.

We're hoping to post some photos and a few words about our adventure every night, but it all depends on cell signal in campgrounds and battery life.

That's all for now. More to come tomorrow!
